The lodge's latitude, far north under the auroral oval, means frequent, brilliant displays that seem close enough to touch, with colours sweeping and swirling across the vast sky in greens, purples, and pinks. Each season offers its own magic: fall combines the auroras with the vivid autumn landscape, winter offers dark, icy skies for some of the clearest auroral displays, and spring brings the Northern Lights dancing above melting snow and budding trees. Blachford Lake Lodge provides an Aurora Borealis experience like no other, a surreal, unforgettable encounter with nature’s greatest light show.

Winter and spring at Blachford Lake Lodge present an extraordinary opportunity to experience the Aurora Borealis against the pristine backdrop of the frozen northern landscape. In winter, the icy silence of the lake and snow-covered forests amplifies the ethereal beauty of the auroras, which often appear more vivid due to the long, dark nights and crisp, clear skies.

Guests can venture out onto the frozen lake or settle into the warmth of the lodge’s viewing areas to watch as waves of green, purple, and pink dance across the star-studded sky.
