Arctic Kingdom's Blachford Lake Lodge Division - Yellowknife division in currently seeking the following.
This individual MUST have a strong background in resort or hotel room operations and have a very hands-on management style and experience in a similar Hotel/Resort management.
Role Responsibilities
- Provide daily leadership, management, training and direction to all departments (e.g., lodge operations, property management, logistics and office administration
- Drive Revenue and Control all Costs
- Focus on exceeding guest expectations daily and on improving established cost and quality standards, maximizing revenue, developing and retaining employees
- Collaborate with government agencies, corporate entities, educational institutions, and non-for profit organizations for partnership opportunities.
- Review, develop and implement policies &; procedures that strengthen the team and improve the customer experience
- Inspire and evaluate staff and provide feedback throughout their work to ensure top performance
- Develop local programs that promote the economy of the indigenous community
- Renew all operating licenses and comply with existing and new regulation.
- Protect the property and their assets through enforcing and maintaining a preventive maintenance program, resulting in employee and guest safety, orderly operations, compliance with legislative standards and company expectations
- Foster a success oriented and accountable environment at the resort
Mandatory Requirements:
- A true passion and appreciation for working in an OFF GRID WILDERNESS resort is essential for success in this role, with 3 to 5 years similar experience managing a similar property in Northern Canada - Yellowknife
- Must be a versatile and multi-skilled professional who is passionate about providing personal serviced and can oversee the rooms division and collaborating with F&B.
- Independent and self-motivated, Creative and Ambitious, Hands-on and Charismatic
- Able to work well with a team and has a proven track record of strong managerial and computers skills
- Willing to accept feedback to ensure their goals are aligned with the team and hotel mission
- A service driven individual dedicated to the guest and employment experience
- Obtained bachelor's degree or diploma in Hotel Management or Business. Excellent communication, interpersonal and solid budgetary knowledge and skills.

Blachford Lake Lodge is owned and operated by Arctic Kingdom Wilderness Lodge Operations and requires an expeditor based in Yellowknife. Our Expeditor coordinates plane loads and freight delivery, winter clothing delivery, freight handling, project supply ordering, recycling and garbage disposal, in town errands and shopping lists according to the needs of the operation. A keen eye for detail is required, as is the ability to be flexible with a work schedule is necessary.
Please note that this is a general job description that is slightly different in summer/fall than winter/spring. Some responsibilities may not be applicable to every season.
A qualified individual must be available to work Tuesdays and Saturdays as well as other days throughout the week and on call as needed.
Servicing and working with an off-grid community environment requires flexibility, communication, and the expectation that no day is the same. There may be additional job requirements as assigned by your manager that may not be listed here.
Reports to: Katherine Johnson and Amy Isaikina
Planes
- Maintain up to date manifests
- Cross check records (must be able to work in multiple computer programs)
- Meet and greet planes and helicopters
- Coordinate freight priority with the lodge management team
Administrative Tasks
- Create manifests and provides load and weight figures to accounting
- Send weekly plane weight/space availability to the lodge and office
- Coordinate special freight and deliveries to the site (events/reno etc)
- Check and respond to emails on a regular basis
Winter Gear
- Deliver and collect winter gear to and from guests
- Clean and maintain winter gear
- Maintain adequate supply
- Maintain a clean and organized gear room and rotation
People
- Meet and greet guests and engage in conversation - warm welcomes and fond farewells
- Ensure that guest’s luggage is tagged, weighed and prepared for the flight.
- Handle, label, tag and communicate with guests to store baggage in the YK office.
- Check that guests are adequately dressed for departures and bush planes
- Provide pre-flight briefing for guests
- Call taxis for guests as required
- Assisting staff with transfers in Yellowknife to and from the lodge
Expediting
- Check mailbox on a regular basis, twice weekly as a minimum
- Run errands as required (shopping lists, picking up orders, etc.) In an organized and time efficient manner
- Delivering water samples to labs in a timely manner
- Dispose of slop, garbage and recycling
- Order fuels and coordinate delivery in coordination with Lodge Manager and Management Team as necessary
- Be the face of Arctic Kingdom and Blachford Lake Lodge in Yellowknife
- Maintain documentation around Yellowknife
- Assist staff coming in/out of the lodge
- Use company vehicle as necessary and coordinate use of
- Receive, respond to and organize expediting of lodge orders on Mondays to ensure that supplies are arranged for the Saturday plane
Yellowknife Office
- Assisting to set up and organize our Yellowknife office locations
- Organize, inventory, and rack winter gear
- Cleaning of the Yellowknife office location
- Tasks associated with maintaining and cleaning the Blachford vehicle
- Document review, editing and creation
- Assisting with office, sales, marketing or communications as required.
Cultural Awareness
- Our relationship and reputations with our Indigenous guides and international guests are important relationships that Arctic Kingdom and Blachford Lake Lodge constantly foster and work to develop. It is important that our Assistant Systems Manager works to foster these relationships, showing respect, equality, and cultural awareness and sensitivity to all persons and cultural diversity involved in all aspects of the operation.
Health & Medical
- Be in good physical condition and capable of lifting heavy loads.
- Working long hours and being available for work extended periods in challenging conditions is common
Mandatory Certificates:
- Class 5 drivers license with drivers abstract
- Criminal record check
- Must be able to use multiple computer applications and cell phones. Must check emails regularly.
