WHY US?

the real arctic for real travelers

If you are only going to visit the Arctic once (or if you really have fallen in love with it), do you not want to see, touch, feel, experience, the real Arctic with all your senses?

Our approach to luxury adventure in the Arctic is about the richness and authenticity of the experience rather than the number of Michelin stars. We enjoy a great restaurant, bottle of wine, or five-star hotel as much as anyone but we also know that nothing tastes better than an exceptionally well-prepared meal after a day of tracking polar bears.

Squeezing every great moment of your time with us is our sole mission. You no doubt will have high expectations and we aim to exceed them. We believe we are uniquely qualified to do this because we possess two (proprietary) competitive advantages: our approach to guiding and our gear!

1. Our Approach to Guiding

We bring you the best of both worlds – old & new.
Our local guides and elders have been travelling and living on the land all their lives. They are constantly in search of hidden treasures; their knowledge and secrets are built into every one of our trips. Combine this old world traditional knowledge with the very latest in new world ‘cutting edge’ Arctic equipment and technology – (from satellite imagery for wildlife tracking), to rigid polar bear proof structures and the latest spotting scopes and the result is an exemplary experience: one that ensures three things:
i. Authenticity of experience – “the real arctic for real travellers”
ii. A higher probability you will see animals you came to see
iii. Luxury, safety, comfort and warmth

2. Our Gear

Quite simply, because we own all of our own equipment, no other operator can provide access to the depth and breadth of activities we can. Whether you want to build an igloo with an Inuit elder or film a multi-million dollar film production (as we did when we helped Disney film the movie ‘Oceans’) – we have the gear. What this means is that your range of options and activities is greater with us than with anyone else. We own everything from compressors and hyperbaric chambers to airboats, hot air balloons and 15 types of the latest arctic camp set-ups – all stored in different communities throughout the Arctic.

Arctic Kingdom’s cutting edge use of technology has been featured in articles by the European Space Agency and as an Intel case study on remote communications. Although we have access to almost every kind of advanced technology in the field, the best navigational route may come from a suggestion of one of our Inuit guides, who for generations have lived in an area and may offer advice not obvious as a first choice from technology alone. To have both options and all of the data, modern high tech and proven wisdom passed down through generations is to have: “the best of both worlds”

WHY CHOOSE AN ARCTIC KINGDOM TRIP?

Expert-Crafted Itineraries

With hundreds of hours of aerial scouting the Arctic, over a decade of operating animal oriented expeditions for some of the worlds leading film makers and photographers to the most remote regions of the arctic – we can comfortably say – we know the Arctic. We offer you our favourite locations for scenery, abundance of animals, and rich local Inuit culture.

Spirit of Exploration and Adventure

We here at Arctic Kingdom have a strong spirit of exploration. We are always searching for new locations in the Arctic that offer animals and stunning scenery. We try to instill that spirit of exploration in every expedition, often taking a new route, explore a new area or go just a little further to see what’s over the next mountain. Every expedition offers something different from the last one ensuring a fresh perspective and something new for you.

Up Close and Personal

Offering the best locations, at the best time of year, our trips offer you the highest likelihood of up close and personal animal encounters and fantastic photographic opportunities, by being on the land (or ice), alongside highly experienced senior Inuit guides.

The Real Arctic on Your Schedule

Traveling over land or ice via snowmobiles or dog team, you become part of the arctic..not just an observer looking at it through a portal. Touch the glaciers, break off a piece of iceberg and melt the water for tea. The best part? …Unlike a ship, there are no rumbling engines or people milling about. You can enjoy the silence of the Arctic…at your own schedule. Peel beneath the surface of the snow, ice and water, and see for yourself, on the ground, what the real arctic is like.

Highest Quality Camping Experience ‘Out there’

Having run multi-year, multi-month expeditions, we know that living comfortably on the land is important to us and to you. Comfort – being able to stand in tents, stretch out, lounge on raised beds, being warm, eating well with the freshest foods and relaxing in our top of the line tents specially designed for Arctic Kingdom make us stand out from the rest. You can rest assured, you will be living in the arctic in a zero-footprint ‘camp’, in as comfortable a manner as possible!

Small Highly Personalized Groups

With small groups of typically 6 to10 persons and led by Arctic Kingdom staff and Inuit guides, you have a ratio of highly personalized service which allows for daily activities that can be tailored to your interests allowing you to enjoy the spontaneity of exploration.

Strong Cultural Exposure

With over a week with our Inuit guides, they will quickly become more than a guide, they will become friends. Sharing stories, watching them track animals, scan the horizon for a polar bear, sew a new parka or make a new pair of seal skin mitts it is your opportunity to augment the arctic experience by learning side by side on a daily basis on your expedition.

Experienced local Inuit Guides

Our Inuit guides are second to none! Working closely with our Inuit senior guides, experienced elders and energetic youth in each community, we have handpicked our guides for their skills, personalities and knowledge.

We operate our own trips

We operate our own arctic trips – not through some third party. When you sign up with us, we will be with you on your trip with our own expedition leaders with local community support. Why is this important? We are on the ground with you and will do all we can to ensure the highest service possible, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in your arctic experience.

Full Service Personalized Attention

From the moment you contact us to the day you arrive back from your expedition, you have a personal trip manager. Our staff have all been to the Arctic and can speak knowledgeably from firsthand experience to help develop and plan your Arctic trip. Let us take care of all the details from getting you from your home to your departure location. Need clothing for the Arctic? Not only will we provide you with a recommended clothing list, but we can also provide you with any items – such as a parka, hats, gloves or boots you don’t have. Even while on the expedition, you are fully supported and attended to by our Expedition Leaders, with a secondary support team back at our Toronto Head Office in the event your friends and family back home need to get a hold of you.

A solid ‘Arctic Safety Plan’

You won’t ever see it (hopefully!), but we have a thorough Arctic Safety Plan complete with training and top of the line equipment. The arctic is a beautiful place, but when you are far from the nearest town out on the land, we take your safety very seriously. With a mix of traditional survival and modern technology, our staff are well prepared to handle minor to major emergency scenarios. Arctic Kingdom expedition leaders are highly trained professionals and along with Inuit guides have instant communication ability with our headquarters as well as local response teams. With top of line communication systems, GPS, and satellite phones, your safety is our number one consideration.

Leader and Innovator

Arctic Kingdom was the first and is the only operator to offer full diving support in the Arctic. We are the only Arctic PADI five star dive facility. From our diving heritage in the Arctic, we have evolved and continuously strive to work with local communities, science organizations and equipment manufacturers to improve all of our arctic trips and operations. You benefit by knowing you have the top of the line equipment, people, and techniques around you at all times.
