Arrival in Winnipeg. Overnight in hotel of your choice.
Depart Winnipeg for Churchill. On arrival transfer to your private charter for a 40-min flight to the Arviat Polar Bear Cabins – your home for 5 days. This is halfway between Churchill and Arviat on the Hudson Bay Coast, just south of the mighty Gellini River and right among “Polar Bear Alley.” Here we live, observe and photograph these great, white bears as they wait for both the river and the Hudson Bay coast to freeze for the winter.
Polar Bear observation, up-close photography, trekking and Northern Lights. Our Inuit guide will accompany you throughout your visit. They have lived among polar bears for generations and developed an intricate understanding of how to stay safe in their presence. You will have the freedom to trek beyond the cabin complex, and approach bears from the ground for up close viewing and photography. Often the bears are friendly, in good spirits and will not approach. At times a curious bear may come towards us, but our guides will ensure we are always a safe distance.
In the evenings we will stare wide-eyed at the intense Northern Lights dancing overhead.
If we're lucky we'll see the local Quamirjuaq Caribou herd – which can reach more than 400,000 in number -- travelling across the tundra as we fly overhead on our way back to Churchill.
From Churchill we'll transfer to the scheduled flight back to Winnipeg, arriving in the late evening. Here we'll say goodbye to our fellow group members.
"Every year we see more bears. Last year more than 300 bears came past the cabins."
-Arviat Inuit Lead Guide
