Taste of the Floe Edge
Taste of the Floe Edge Itinerary
Depart Ottawa around 9:00 am and fly north to Iqaluit, arriving early in the afternoon for a Taste of the Floe Edge. You will be met by your Arctic Kingdom tour leader at the airport. After getting checked into your hotel room, we will begin with a city tour of Iqaluit. We'll pass by the major sites and attractions, and visit the Visitor's Centre, museum, and the legislature from where Canada's newest territory is governed.
Our Taste of the Floe Edge itinerary begins in the morning, when you gear up and head out to load the snowmobiles and qamutiks (traditional Inuit sleds) for the 2 to 3-hour journey to the floe edge. Along the way, you can admire the striking ice formations along the coast that are formed by the powerful forces of the second-largest tides in Canada in Frobisher Bay.
Our ultimate destination is the mystical floe edge known to the Inuit as the "Line of Life". We should see migratory birds along the while keeping an ever watchful eye out for polar bears.
One arrived at the floe edge, kayaks will be made available for those that would like to head out on the water (conditions permitting).
After a full day at the floe edge, we'll pack up the gear and make our way back to Iqaluit.
Before the departure flight, we invite you to tour the city's art galleries and meet with local artists. Check-in and fly back to Ottawa in the afternoon. Arrival in Ottawa will be between 4:20 and 4:50 pm.
