Cree Cultural Weekend Getaway
Day 1: Friday arrival at the Chibougamau airport in northwestern Quebec. A local guide greets you at the airport and transfers you to Ouje-Bougoumou on the shore of Lake Opemiska. A guided walking tour of the town introduces participants to the dramatic struggle of the Cree Nation of Ouje-Bougoumou to gain recognition and to establish a permanent home. At Aanischaaukamikw - the Cree Cultural Institute, you will explore 4,000 years of Cree history and tradition. Aanischaaukamikw meets the highest standards of museum curation. The staff are trained interpretors eager to share their knowledge and their pride with you. A special program has been arranged. A welcome dinner in a lakeside restaurant ends the day. Overnight at Capissisit Lodge.
Day 2: Saturday after breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to Nuuhchimi Wiinuu, a Cree cultural camp run by a local family. During your stay you can try canoeing. Cree are people of the canoe, using it for centuries to transport families and goods across the immense territory. A hands-on program in Cree crafts, wellness traditions and traditions fills the day. You will sample traditional Cree cuisine at lunch and dinner in the camp dining room with views of the lake. Overnight in traditional Cree tented lodging. Nuuhchimi Wiinuu is situated on the shore of a lake, at the mouth of a river. Black spruce tower over the facilities, providing shade from the summer sun.
Day 3: After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Montreal.
