Arctic Dive Weekend
Arctic Dive Weekend Itinerary
Depart Ottawa around 9:00 am and fly north to Iqaluit, arriving early in the afternoon. You will be met by your Arctic Kingdom dive instructor at the airport. After picking up your hotel key, we'll do a gear check and head out for the first dive of the trip.
After an early breakfast head farther out to a more remote dive site. We travel by boat into Frobisher Bay and relish some incredible drift dives. Discover the stunning underwater topography created by plunging rock and heaving tides. Be sure to keep an eye out for two types of whales that frequent the area: the magnificent bowhead and comical beluga.
On all the Frobisher Bay dives, the macro life will astound you as the cold -1°C Arctic waters supports life not seen in traditional dive locations further south.
We depart early once again to make the most of the day. We may head out to dive a second time in Frobisher Bay or we may do some river diving with Arctic char in Sylvia Grinnell Territorial Park.
No dives will be conducted in the afternoon. Our time will be spent exploring the stunning landscapes and enjoying the variety of activities available in and around Iqaluit.
After a relaxed breakfast, we invite you to explore Iqaluit at your leisure. You'll have a chance to visit Inuit art galleries, the Visitor's Centre, museum, and the territorial legislature. If you prefer, enjoy a short hike through Sylvia Grinnell Park and then after lunch, transfer to the airport for your return flight to Ottawa. The flight departs at approximately 1:00 pm. Arrival in Ottawa is expected between 4:20 and 4:50 pm.
Please note: Minimum requirement for participation is Advanced Openwater for PADI certification.
