Arctic Canada Dive Adventure

Dive in the arctic around Frobisher Bay (Baffin Island)– home of the second largest tides in the world!

Only a 3 hour flight from Ottawa, Arctic diving just became a long-weekend dive. Visit Iqaluit, Nunavut’s capital, and immerse yourself in the Arctic both above and below the water. April and May dates will offer ice diving with snowmobiles, where August to October departures will be in open water by boat. Experience not only sublime diving conditions with crystal clear water, but also the warm hospitality of the Inuit people, stunning Arctic scenery and the always present chance of wildlife encounters. Requirements: Min. Advanced Diving Certification.

April dive adventures –- ice and snowmobiles

In April, the days are getting longer with up to 14 hours of daylight. The sea ice is 3 to 4 feet thick covering Frobisher Bay that Iqaluit looks over. Snow covers the mountains that surround Frobisher Bay. We will use snowmobiles pulling sleds to the dive sites. The air temperatures can range from -10°C up to +5°C. The dive sites will have a heated tent to change and warm up. The water temperature will be -1°C. Drysuits are must to dive.

The dives themselves will be through sea ice or natural openings in the sea ice – such as cracks or seal holes that are widening to the snow melt. We will also have cut some larger holes and you can marvel at the 3 to 4 feet thick ice.

August dive adventures – open water and boats

This is the warmest and most vibrant time to be in the Arctic. The tundra is ablaze in colour with wildflowers everywhere. Temperatures can range from 10°C to as high as 30°C! Iqaluit overlooks an ice-free Frobisher Bay that allows us to travel by boat to virtually any dive site. Frobisher Bay is virtually unexplored and while we will go to incredible dives sites we have previously been to, we’ll explore new areas! You can be a pioneer of Arctic diving.
